Beauty and the Beast

Jane and I volunteered last night at The Duluth Playhouse and thoroughly enjoyed the performance of Beauty and the Beast.
Jane went for lunch today at Takk for Maten with Sissy, Mary, Denise, Diane, and Kathryn.

Weather caused today's planned hike to be postponed until next Thursday when we will go to Split Rock Lighthouse. Four of us had this little neighborhood walk this morning.

Gooseberry Falls State Park

Even though we weren't selected to go on the trip to Gooseberry Falls, we managed to get on the bus as stand-by. It turned out to be a good cool day.

Yesterday we went to IMAX and saw Mysteries of the Great Lakes then went over to Barkers Island to see the antique cars at the Horseless Carriage Club of America Lake Superior Tour.

Dulcimer and Ragtime -- Both Today

This afternoon we attended a program on Dulcimers presented by Wendy Grethen of DulcimersofDuluth.com.
Here's a short video I made there.
Last night we attended the "Summer Mini-Bash" of Lake Superior Ragtime Society. It was one
of the most fun things we've done here. They had a dozen or so pianists along with a few other performers playing and singing -- some very good. Pictures Click (photos by Georgia Caldwell)

Walk and Rally for the Lake

From 1957 to 1962 the US Army secretly dumped 1,457 barrels of waste from Honeywell's Army Ammunitions Plant into Lake Superior near the intake for Duluth public water supply. We joined the rally today to demand testing and removal of toxic waste from the lake.

This morning we went to breakfast with Fred, Sissy, Bill, Denise, and Kathryn at Swamp Sisters. Picture below. This afternoon we enjoyed 70 performances in 6 wonderful piano recitals. Last evening we heard 6 exciting performers in an honors recital.

Lake Superior Railroad Museum

Jane and I ushered today at Marshall Performing Arts Center for "The Ice Fishing Play" by Kevin Kling. The two hour play takes place entirely in an ice fishing shelter. Earlier today we enjoyed the train muesum -- pictures below.

Last nignt we went to the concert on the lawn at Glensheen and our friends, Marilyn and John went with us.
Today seventeen of us hiked the Seven Bridges Road and Lester Park trail.
This evening we went to Two Harbors for a band concert and had dinner at Culvers.

Beautiful Day To Be Outside
