Sunday

Yesterday afternoon we attended the music camp concerts for piano, strings, choir, and band. Each was enjoyable.
This evening we went to the pizza party for Grandma's marathon volunteers. There were over five thousand volunteers but only a few hundred attend the party.

A Cold Rainy Night

Last night we thoroughly enjoyed the Faculty Recital at the Weber. It was well worth going out in the rain.

The grandest wildflower adorning our roadsides, the Lupine, is now in it's glory.

Park Point Hike

Yesterday afternoon we went on the Environmental Series hike to Park Point.
I hope we can remember not to do it again. The interest to effort ratio is about 1:4. I had a fall in the mud.

Sunday at the Zoo

Today Jane and I visited the Lake Superior Zoo.

Grandma's Marathon

Yesterday we watched parts of Grandma's Marathon from several viewing points.
Runners raced out of the starting gates Saturday morning for the 34th annual Grandma’s Marathon.
There were about 7,400 entries with runners coming from all over the world, including those from South Korea, Ireland, Qatar, Pakistan and Switzerland.
Philemon Kemboi of Kenya won in 2 hours, 15 minutes, 44 seconds, while Buzenush Deba of Ethiopia finished with a personal-best time of 2:31:35 in the women's event.
Kenyans also won the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon. Stephen Muange finished in 1:04:24 seconds. Muange lives and trains in Farmington, N.M. In the women's half marathon, Caroline Rotich won in 1:12:40. She lives in Santa Fe, N.M.

First Week

I'm feeling good about our yoga and aerobic exercise classes. I really need that routine. The lingering complications of my herniated disk are noticeable but don't limit me too much. Tomorrow we do our pre-race volunteering for Grandma's Marathon which will be run Saturday. I suspect the stress of unloading and all that was involved with getting settled-in led to Jane's need for last Wednesday's overnight in the hospital. She was feeling fine when I picked her up Thursday after lunch. We've watched three movies this week. We ushered at the Duluth Playhouse for their production of Our Town -- Jane on Friday and me on Saturday. We won't need to be separated in the future. Sunday we went to Split Rock lighthouse.

Friends Along The Way

We arrived in Duluth late morning yesterday on the ninth day after our departure from home. A continuous cold rain hampered our load-in but we managed to get semi-settled in and felt thankful to have arrived safely.
We had eight overnight stops -- one was for two nights. Below you can meet our hosts -- three of them we already knew from previous stops.
