This Week

I had never heard of Kathy Griffin when we went Tuesday night to usher for her at The Kravis. She obviously has a lot of fans since, to my surprise, the show was sold out. She spoke for two hours without a pause with raunchy language that would make a sailor blush. With my more genteel nature, I was at first uncomfortable, but after I became desensitized, I really enjoyed her and even laughed a few times. She won me over because of her strongly liberal positions.

This afternoon our frugal dining out group was hosted by Billy Henin. I think everyone enjoyed getting together with takeout from China Wok. Freda will be hosting the April meeting.

Our week has been occupied with medical issues. Jane finished her MRI brain scan just in time for the above noted frugal dining. Friday she had to go to urgent care and then to Good Sam's emergency room for her blood pressure, headache, and vision loss. Fortunately, they released her and sent her to an ophthalmologist that night.  Monday, she went to Bascom Palmer and then again Tuesday when she finally got the care she needed. It seems to be acute angle glaucoma. I've been suffering with vertigo for over a week. My treatment in the "flying chair" last Wednesday didn't fix me so I have to go back next week.

Movie

I wouldn't call it a "must-see," but I'm glad we went to the pre-release screening of the new Jane Eyre movie last night at Regal Theater. It's a slow, gloomy, dark, and sad love story that has a lot going for it -- fine cinematography and directing. The flash-back near the beginning had me confused but the story held my attention to the end. I was relieved when it ended.

Armory Art Center

On March 21 we enjoyed an exhibit at the Armory Art Center and had a tour and lecture with the artist, Jane Davis Doggett. I snapped these pictures of the very large works. There were many smaller works.

Sunday Walk

This month's city walk was 2.8 miles across both bridges and along the pedestrian paths on both sides of the
lake. Twenty of us enjoyed a beautiful morning.

Week In Review

Among the week's activities, we enjoyed concerts by The New Gardens Band, The Sunshine Pops Orchestra, The Palm Beach Pops Orchestra (described below) and The Symphonic Band of the Palm Beaches -- the band I played with for a short time about forty years ago. The S.B. of the P.B. has come a long way and is a community band I would rate "superior."                            Thursday evening for Saint Patrick's Day, we entertained for dinner, Phoebe, Robert, Gail, and Marty and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

At The Kravis Tuesday night The Palm Beach Pops presented superstar, Clint Holmes celebrating Sammy Davis, Jr. It was a big hit and everyone seemed to love it. Holmes is a natural entertainer and really commanded the stage.

Beach Walk Today

On this afternoon's beach walk we trudged through the soft sand to see the mansions from the ocean side. The two in the beach-level view are side-by-side as the aerial view shows. Jane is standing in front of the former Abe Gosman estate which was bought by Donald Trump for $41.4 million and sold to Russian, Dmitri Rybolovlev for $94 million.

Leslie Streeter

Pat, Jane, and I attended Leslie Streeter's talk today at the library. It was more enjoyable than I expected.

Tuesday night at the Karvis we ushered for the sold out performance by Itzsak Perlman.
Last night at the Eissey Theatre the Duquesne University Tamburitzans were really good and the night before, also at Eissey, we saw 'SWONDERFUL. But, easily, what we enjoyed the most was Tuesday morning when we saw That Mancini Magic! with Mac Frampton, Cecil Welch, and The Moon River Orchestra. It was a smashiing show, loved by everyone. I think that next season we may get tickets for the Adults at Leisure Series; It's such a bargin. I would recommend it to everyone.
