Along The Way

On our drive to Duluth we visited Crystal Bridges, (pictured below) a new art museum in Bentonville, Arkansas. We highly recommend it.

Not far from Crystal Bridges is
Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista, AR.
This is a "must see" if you're anywhere nearby.

Northland Arrival

We arrived at "summer camp for seniors" in Duluth around noon on Tuesday (2 days ago) and are pretty well settled in. It is such a delight to find cool temperatures -- about like Florida winters.

We had a good trip with six stops with these Evergreeners: Ocala FL, Columbus GA, Jackson TN, Bella Vista AR, Altoona IA, Forest Lake MN. We took this different and longer route in order to visit a new art museum in Bentonville, Arkansas -- Crystal Bridges.

We stopped at the Spam Museum in south Minnesota.

Movie Comment

Last night we saw the movie, Chimpanzee, about a baby chimpanzee who is orphaned and attempts to survive on his own and then is adopted by the Alpha Male of his group. It is amazing photography. Jane and I both liked it a lot and recommend it.

Sunfest Fireworks

Jane and I are aficionados of fireworks and seldom miss an opportunity enjoy a show -- usually as close-up as we can get. Sunday night's display at Sunfest was another fine show. We always think it's their best yet.

Saturday evening we went over to the ocean for the "super moon" but I really didn't expect anything special. We nearly always take pizza to the beach for full-moon rise anyway but we were dumbfounded by the crowds. Parking was a real challenge.

An update: My peripheral neuropathy, caused by a virus, although still a health issue for me, seems to have subsided and is less a hindrance to my activities. I had hernia repair surgery this week which was indirectly related to my recent medications. Jane's and my plans to travel again to Duluth have been in limbo but now it looks as though we'll be leaving about May 30. This will be our eleventh summer in Minnesota. We love it there and I wish you could all join us.

This Week

This afternoon Jeff & Sarah Fisher went with us to the polo games.
Saturday Jane and I ushered at Lake Worth Playhouse for Music Man. This little community theater consistently produces excellent entertainment. We both enjoyed it a lot and recommend it.

We enjoyed the Volunteer Salute at the Kravis last Monday night. For the twentieth year, it was extra nice with the theme, Midnight in Paris.

City Walk Today

We had such a good time today on our monthly City Walk. Counting Jane & me there were 12 of us walking. We went north on Lake Trail and upon returning, we visited the Paramount Theater photo gallery. I was so glad to be walking again after being unable for so long.

Jane's Birthday

Happy Birthday to my bride of 26 years and my all-time favorite wife, Jane. She has given me support, affection, and good times far beyond what I deserve. Thank you, Dear.

Health Improvement

I'm happy to report I'm optimistic about the improvement in my health. Although I'm still not back to normal, my pain is much less and I'm able to walk two miles at a fairly brisk pace. Yesterday was the first time I've driven in more than two months. I feel like I've aged 5 years in the past two months. This morning Jane and I went on Paul Cummings' aerobic walk and enjoyed seeing old friends again. Last week we attended a screening at Muvico of Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and enjoyed it a lot. I definitely wouldn't call it a "must see" but it was quite entertaining. Here's what others thought.

Let's Hear It For Gay Pride

Don't get the idea that I'm feeling better but I do need to get out once in a while and have some diversion. We hate to miss the Gay Pride parade in Lake Worth. I'm still feeling really bad with burning feet and so weak. I guess it's peripheral neuropathy. I've lost nearly 20 pounds in the past two months.

Woe Is Me

My sickness began a month and a half ago and I'm still miserable. I see little improvement and I'm becoming discouraged. I feel sorry for Jane because she doesn't get to do a lot of things we would do together. We have attended some events --  Palm Beach Pops, Itzak Perlman and the New Shanghai Circus at the Kravis, The Agatha Christie play,  The Unexpected Guest at The Lake Worth Playhouse, and an excellent production by P.B. Dramaworks of ‘The Pitmen Painters’ but unfortunately, I couldn't enjoy them because of my pain (mostly in my feet) and weakness. I'm taking medication that makes me dizzy.
