Sunfest Fireworks

Sunfest Fireworks

Jane and I went to the always-excellent Sunfest fireworks
last night.  We rarely miss a chance to see fireworks
but it doesn't seem as important anymore.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR"

I wish for all a happy and prosperous 2015.....
In case anyone may have wondered, I'm still kicking. It's just that I've been staying away from my blog in favor of other things and I've become lazier.

A little challenge for your thinking:

Life began on earth 3.8 billion years ago, and insects diversified 290 million years ago, but the human and chimpanzee lineages diverged only five million years ago.
At what point in our evolution did our assignment or designation of moral responsibility occur? Are there other living animals with similar responsibility? Evolution deniers can be excused from this problem.

Mid-term Election Blues

The disappointing mid-term election results this week have deepened my depression. I suppose it was our turn to be disappointed. Back in 2008 we were euphoric and then in 2012 the Republicans probably felt crushed. Why can't we come together and get things fixed? I'll tell you why -- selfishness, short-sightedness, money in politics, and above all the importance of being reelected trumping doing what is best for the people. For the sake of my mental health, I need to take the view that in the long-run nothing really matters. After the big asteroid collision, all will be forgotten.

Finally, Cooler Weather

This morning Jane and I had a good walk in Palm Beach on Lake Trail. With long-anticipated cooler weather, it was a perfect day to be outside. Pictures are below.
Last night we saw the very engaging mystery, Gone Girl. It's a well acted film but major plot flaws make it unbelievable. I found it unrealistic. Many will rate this film highly but I can't call it a "must-see." As usual,  this prude found the sexual situations offensive.

Getting back into the season.

Last night we viewed the new movie, Pride.  It's based on true events when U.K. gay activists worked to help miners during their lengthy strike of the National Union of Mineworkers in the summer of 1984. I suspect it will have a limited showing. It isn't a don't-miss but I liked it.
The night before we ushered for the Palm Beach Dramaworks production of Our Town, one of our favorites. It runs through November 9 and we highly recommend it.
We're looking forward to seeing tomorrow the Lake Worth Playhouse production of Mame. which runs through October 26.

Jane and I returned this week from a pleasant cruise in the southern Caribbean.
It was good in many ways. The ports of call were all hot -- no surprise. Our main complaint is the overly loud sound in all the entertainment. The shows were good but not quite up to our expectations. The accommodations and service were excellent.
