Another Cold Day - Barbecue and Theatre

Overnight temperatures have been in the upper 40s. Today when we went out grocery shopping it was 54 with a light rain.
For supper today there was a potluck barbecue for our apartment. Murray Kratka (from W.P.B.) entertained on his keyboard. We hurried downtown after supper to "The Playground" where we attended the most delightful musical comedy, "I Love You,You're Perfect, Now Change." We had the best time and were so glad we went.

Hike in Hartley Park

Sunday evening we attended the Grandma's Marathon volunteer dinner party with a couple of hundred people. There were over 5,000 volunteers. I don't know what they'd do if they all showed up.
This afternoon Sarah Engebretson led us on a hike on the Superior Hiking Trail in Hartley Park. The pictures below are from today's hike.

Cold Saturday

Most of today was like a cold Florida winter day but with mist and light rain. Later it cleared but remained cold. We wanted to attend several seasonal events but only saw two briefly. We stopped by Fitgers and saw this Pipes & Drums band but didn't stay for the Highland Dancing.
Wednesday evening we ushered for a program at the Marshall Performing Arts Theater. Yesterday we attended a lecture at the Tweed Museum of Art.
Last night we were entertained by Mary and Evert House and enjoyed being with them.

Flower Walk - Longest Day of the Year

Walking in the neighborhood this morning, we enjoyed the many flowers in the yards. Lilac is still fragrant but nearing its end. The profusely blooming fruit trees are also waning. Here are a few flower pictures:

Grandma's Marathon

Grandma's Marathon is the biggist event of the year here. We have viewed it in each of the privious six years but today we had other plans.
Our plans for the weekend have been thwarted by our car breakdown. We had planned to visit our friends about two and a half hours away but shortly after starting out we had a breakdown that couldn't be repaired until Monday. Boo hoo.

Fred & Sissy, Bill & Denise, John & Kathryn, and Jane & I had breakfast at Bridgemans.

Keeping Busy

Yesterday we volunteered for the Grandma's Marathon packet pick-up. The race is tomorrow -- Saturday. We going to visit some friends in Akeley, MN tomorrow so will miss the race. The weather is pleasently cool -- often colder than I prefer but I'm not complaining.

Arrival in Duluth

We arrived safely in Duluth today after six stops along the way. We made new friends and renewed friendships with the Evergreeners pictured below. They were most helpful, generous, and hospitable. I wish they were all closer so we could see them regularly.

Spring Concert

When my usual optimism about the future of civilization wanes, I need only attend a performance at BAK Middle School of the Arts as we did tonight to have my gloom banished. This school, only a stone's throw from our home, surely must be one of the nations best. The spring concert of their vocal music department was so thrilling as to bring goose pimples to this cynic's skin. I highly recommend you get a performance schedule and enjoy their offerings as often as you can.

Last night at Muvico we viewed the movie, Angels & Demons starring Tom Hanks. It isn't a "must see" but I think most people would find it quite engaging.

Seven of us had a lovely walk to see the new docks on the waterfront then to the new city hall and library and the county courthouse and history museum. We missed the very many who couldn't join us.

THE WIZARD OF OZ

Tuesday evening we volunteered at the Kravis for the opening night of The Wizard Of Oz.
It wasn't sold well but everyone seemed to like it and didn't rush out as usual. Jane and I worked together in the balcony but even being so far away, we enjoyed it a lot.
